IMPORTANT Necessary Campout Training Opportunities - BALOO/OWLS this coming

Posted on Feb 14 2018 - 1:01am

In order for the pack to continue to enjoy overnight campouts, we are required to have in attendance at least one adult who is Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) trained.  As of now we only have one individual with this certification, so if no one steps up to complete the training, we will not be able to do overnight campouts in the future.  It is minimal cost and time committment, so we encourage any parent who enjoys the campouts (you do not have to be a den leader) to complete this necessary item.  For the older scouts (Bear and Webelos), there is additional training for overnight camping called Outdoor leader skills for Webelos Leaders (OWL) training.  In addition for the future, if we plan to do BB guns and archery at Cub World again, we will also need individuals with specific training through the scouting program (future dates to be announced).   The next BALOO training is Feb 24 (4 hour), and there is combined BALOO/OWLS training this coming weekend Feb 17-18 (overnight);  the next OWL training only is Feb 24-25 (overnight).  Let us know if you can help with this, and you can signup by going to the following link:  http://www.bsacac.org/training_events.php

New T-shirt Design Contest for next year

Posted on Feb 14 2018 - 12:59am

It's time to update the Pack 20 t-shirt!  We are taking submissions for the new design for next fall's shirt.  The prize is bragging rights and seeing your design on your fellow Cub Scouts.  Either your den can come up with a collabarative effort, or individuals can design their own.  We want to include the Scout Law on the back again and Pack 20, but otherwise no specific guidelines.  You can look at other shirt designs on the web for inspiration or use t-shirt design programs to help put something together.  Deadline for entry will be near the end of the school year.

Pinewood Derby Results and Thanks

Posted on Feb 7 2018 - 6:23am

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the 2018 Pack 20 Pinewood Derby a success! We had a great turnout with 84 racers across the 4 ranks.  Race standings and award lists are attached.  Special appreciation to Pinewood Derby organizer, Brian Wilson, for launching the new timer system, and creating the new venue of running the race at the Fellowship Hall at Tarrytown Methodist.  Many thanks go out to our team of volunteers:  Neelan Choksi, Greg Dvorak, Stephen Erickson, Mak Ghangurde, Daniel Glauser, Craig Matney, James Shieh, and Edison Thomaz.  Thanks also go out to Jimmy Barnard and Harrison from Boy Scout Troop 5 who helped with the concession stand.   And finally, many thanks for all those who stayed to the end to help clean up the hall, and we also appreciate those who brought canned goods for donation to the food bank.  We hope everyone had fun, and learned a lot about building and racing to take forward to next year!

Volunteers needed....

Social Media Guru -  Other packs have created private Facebook pages to share photos and information.  We think it would be great for Pack 20 to have one where only our members can post and share what our Dens and Pack have been up to.  Anyone with the expertise of administering this?
