First fall campout Camp Mabry Sept 29-30 - FINAL DEADLINE SIGNUP THIS SUNDAY SEPT 23

Posted on Sep 19 2018 - 12:15am

Our first all pack campout will be September 29-30, at Camp Mabry, right here in Austin.  We are at the Building 75 Picnic Area.  We plan to have rocket building and launching as our activity.  There are trails for hiking and biking (with helmets).  There is a fishing pond at the nearby Pond Picnic Area; the kids do not need a license, but adults who want to fish are required to obtain a fishing permit from the Camp Mabry Garrison Command   BLDG 64, Mon-Fri between 0800-1600, for $15.  You can also explore the Texas Military Forces Museum, open from 1000-1600;  no charge but donations welcome.  For more information: http://texasmilitaryforcesmuseum.org/.  There will be time for dens to work on badges and encouraced to do so.  We are coordinating den assignments for campout responsibilities with your den leaders, but as of now, the plan is for Den 4 to cover dinner duty, Den 8 to cover smores, Den 7 to cover breakfast, and Den 5 to cover fire duty.  Certain Dens will be in charge of coordinating volunteers for rocket building, launching, and safety.  However, all parents should help their scout with their own rocket.  Only 1 small rocket will be provided for each scout;  there will not be extras for siblings or parents, but you are welcome to bring your own rockets to shoot.  Camp Mabry rules and maps are attached.  Schedule for the weekend and Pack 20 campout guidelines will be posted soon.  Hard deadline for signup is September 23 this Sunday, as we need that week to plan appropriately for this very large group.

Popcorn Fundraising Updates

Posted on Sep 18 2018 - 11:29pm

Message from our Popcorn Kernel:  We are finished with our Show and Sell booths at Randalls.  They were a great success.  Thank you to everyone who participated.   You can still participate in Show and Deliver (door to door) and Take Order until October 21st.  I still have lots of popcorn if you are interested in taking it with you for your sales.   Also I will send out an email this week with instructions on setting up an online account to send to out of town friends and family!  If you need order forms or have questions, please contact Laurie Worsham, at 512-633-6149, or laurieworsham@yahoo.com.

Training Opportunities

Posted on Sep 18 2018 - 11:25pm

With the start of the new school year and registration time, we need to make sure everyone does required trainings that ensure safety for our Cub Scouts.  The Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for any registered adults, including all Tiger parents, and adults in any leadership positions (including den leaders, co-den leaders, committee members).  Pack 20 also STRONGLY ENCOURAGES all parents to participate, so that everyone understands the concept of 2-deep leadership supervision.  The link to Capital Area Council page for YPT is http://www.bsacac.org/resources/youth_protection, which reviews the current requirements, as well as the link to online class, and how to get a certificate on completion.  YPT needs to be done before the Camp Mabry Campout and den meetings.

MANDATORY meeting for all new scouts this Thursday Sept 13 for den formation and important information

Posted on Sep 12 2018 - 5:10pm

This is a mandatory meeting for all new scout parents (no kids please), including Tigers and older scouts.  At this meeting, the new dens will be formed and den leadership will also be determined.  Please think about who your scouts already know and would like to be grouped with, and we will try to accommodate preferences as much as we can.  Location is the Tarrytown United Methodist Classroom, on the Spring Lane side of the building.  There will be very important information provided, regarding how the Pack operates, and how Dens operate under the umbrella of the Pack.  Registrations can also be completed since this is our final deadline, if not already done online prior to the meeting.  We look forward to meeting all the new families!  If you absolutely will not be able to make the meeting, please let us know at pack20austin@gmail.com before Thursday, so that we can get some feedback on which den we will try to place your scout in.  UPDATE:  We have reserved room 711 at 6:00pm at Tarrytown Methodist Church.  See yall there!
