Blue and Gold Banquet May 6 - PLEASE RSVP

This year, Pack 20 is hosting a Blue and Gold Banquet, in lieu of the ceremony we have done in the past, as a celebration of the scouts' rank advancement and achievements this past year.  It will be at the same location as our Pack meetings at Tarrytown Methodist Fellowship Hall, on May 6 Sunday 5-7PM.  We will need for you to RSVP on the signup on the calendar, by the deadline of May 2 Wednesday PM, so we know how many people we need to order food and drinks for.  This is the last chance to submit t-shirt design for next year's Pack 20 shirt.  The pack will sponsor dinner, but we will have pot-luck dessert, coordinated through the den leaders.  For the banquet to be a success, we need all dens to pitch in, just as we do for the campouts.  Den assignments to come soon, but tasks will include set-up, decorating, ordering dinner, supplying drinks/ice, and clean-up.  Please email any pictures of your den to pack20austin@gmail.com;  please email a consolidated list of awards to pack20awards@gmail.com, by the deadline of April 29.

Family Scouting - possibly adding girls dens

For Fall 2018, BSA is opening up to girls!  As we have all experienced, Scouting is a great family experience for boys and girls.  Pack 20 is gauging interest of the families and friends of Pack 20.  If there is enough interest, we can begin planning for this historical step in the Fall.  Please email us at pack20austin@gmail.com if you have an interested girl in your family or network of friends, and let us know of her grade level in the Fall, so we can gauge interest. 

Friends of Scouting Campaign

The Friends of Scouting campaign is an important fundraiser that benefits all of the Capitol Area Council.  Please consider any contribution to show your support.  We would like for all of Pack 20 to participate, in whatever amount you are able.  Summary of the campaign and how to give is described below (please scroll down):

Capitol Area Council Summer Events - Pack 20 will be at Cub Resident Camp June 22-24

There are multiple Capitol Area Council-sponsored summer events that you can sign up for on your own, or with a group from your den.  There are summer day camps at multiple locations around central Texas.  There is STEAM camp at Anderson High School multiple weeks in June and July, and this year's theme is caves.  There is an overnight Cub Resident camp (2 nights/3days) at Cubworld in Bastrop, 2 sessions offered in June;  Pack 20 has 2 adults attending for the first session June 22-24, but registration for this first weekend is now full according to the council signup.  However, there are still spots available for the second session June 29-Jul 1, and you can register for this one on your own.  The camp will give scouts an opportunity to earn badges specific to their rank, as well as use the Cubworld facilities including the pool.  For the Cub Resident Camp, you need to sign up through the council web link below;  there is a signup on the Pack 20 website so we can track who is planning to attend.  Please see below links for more information. 

New T-shirt Design Contest for next year

It's time to update the Pack 20 T-shirt!  We encourage you to submit a design for next year's t-shirt.  The prize is bragging rights, and seeing your design on your fellow Cub Scouts.  Either your den can come up with a collabarative effort, or individuals can design their own.  We want to include the Scout Law on the back again and Pack 20, but otherwise no specific guidelines.  You can look at other shirt designs on the web for inspiration or use t-shirt design programs to put something together.  Deadline for entry is at the Blue and Gold Banquet on May 6.

For the pack to continue to enjoy overnight campouts, BSA requires us to have in attendance at least one adult who is Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) trained.  The next BALOO mega-training is May 18-19 at the Lost Pines Scout Reservation. As of now we only have one individual with this certification, so if no one steps up to complete the training, we cannot do overnight campouts in the future.  We encourage any parent who enjoys the campouts (you do not have to be a den leader), especially from the younger scout ranks, to complete this necessary item.  For the older scouts (Bear and Webelos), there is additional training for overnight camping called Outdoor leader skills for Webelos Leaders (OWL) training, dates TBA.  Also, if we plan to do BB guns and archery at Cub World again, we need individuals with specific training through the scouting program to run the ranges, and next date offered is May 19 (BB guns 8-12, archery 1-4).  Let us know if you can help with this, and you can signup for any of the above dates by going to the following link:  http://www.bsacac.org/training_events.php
